2D Adventure RPGs have become very popular over the years. 100s have swept the web and a lot of people are playing them. But what exactly is a 2D Adventure RPG?

What is a 2D Adventure RPG?

A 2D Adventure RPG is a type of game where a person takes on the Role of a fictional character. Thus RPG means Role-Play(ing)-Game. In an RPG, you will most of the time will have an exciting adventure ahead of you taking you through mystical lands that less have seen. From my experience, the further you travel, the more evil creatures you will have to face. However, this is not always the case, sometimes RPGs can have dangerous areas near newbie (also known as "noob") areas but they tell the player to avoid them. This can be difficult for the newbies as I know myself, you can very easily wonder into these extremely dangerous and find yourself dead.

Battles and levels

Random attacks from vicious monsters has become one of the key things in these games, although, in some games you can see your death coming :) Various rewards are normally given after the battle such as EXP/XP (Experience points which increase your character's power), GP (Gold Pieces, an overused currency in RPGs), armour, weapons and sometimes items that can help you complete a mission/quest. Leveling is a key thing in these games, if you are a low level, then that often means you won't be able to continue any further in the game without killing more creatures. Some people find this the best thing in an RPG, but I don't. I find that getting your character's level up is too repeditive, it can sometimes just take too long. I have given up half way in most RPGs because they made that big mistake. One RPG was going to require a massive amount of over 40 hours just to advance to the next part in the game! Guess what I through out a window after hearing that?

Missions and Quests

My favourite part of the game is completing missions for random strangers. Most of the time these are really fun but they can be boring such as delivering a letter (sigh). Quests are small or long journeys that you must complete various tasks in order to pass. Once done, you will be giving rewards that may solve other quests or just enhance your current character. Solving a quest may also trigger other quests thus advancing in the game. You may be giving two different paths to follow in a quest/game for example, good and evil. This can also be good as once you are done, you could try the other side to see what that journey is like.

Conclusion

A 2D Adventure RPG is a great game that requires skill and some time. It can be the best game ever, but it really depends on who made it. The quality of these games vary from nothing to a legendary game! You can't always judge these games when you first play them, as you may just find the controls difficult to master. Five Reasons Why Microsoft's Support Constraints are Good for Small Business

By mid-October 2006, Microsoft had announced the end of support for Windows XP Service Pack 1. Over the last few years, Microsoft has taken steps to abandon support for Windows9x, ME, and NT 3.x. Some may balk at Microsoft's decisions to constrain support in this way as it prevents Microsoft's web-based update service from downloading new patches and bug fixes, but this is great news for the small business and here's why.

1. Regular Patching Discipline. Small businesses are often incapable of independently developing a strong patch regimen for their microcomputers. When overlooked, weak patch management extends vulnerability. Through forcing users to upgrade to Service Pack 2, the small business is forced to adopt more stringent update strategies.

2. Stronger Security with Limited Backwards Compatibility. Finally, after twenty-five years, Microsoft is realizing that they cant support everything forever; they cannot be everything to everybody. It is too costly to promise full backwards compatibility on all products, and, too risky to support those who still desire to run legacy, antiquated applications. Limiting support is great news for the small business because it will make the Windows platform more secure and less vulnerable to the design weaknesses.

3. Ubiquity. The user experience, the look and feel of a computer's user interface, should be consistent, repeatable, and intuitive - at least, this is what we teach in programming courses. Maintaining support on older operating systems and applications that used antiquated metaphors for navigation, file access, or application use drives up complexity and down ROI on the desktop investment. 4. Constrained Long-term Support/Product Cost. If Microsoft is able to dedicate more time and resources to supporting modern operating systems this (feasibly) could translate to lower production and licensing costs. This means more capability, more security, and more functionality at capped cost levels for the small business consumer.

5. Lower TCO via Purchasing and Support Standardization. Finally, the small business can standardize its microcomputer assets and lower Total Cost of Ownership by eliminating support variability between operating systems. Instead of having to manually address patching and fixes in Windows 9x/ME/2000, small business can leverage XP's automation to contain their support dollars.

Arguably, to some, Microsoft's aggressive moves to limit legacy support may represent the monolithic software giant against flexing its muscle to limit consumer choice, but I'd call that a Red Herring: the cries of anti-competitive behavior are meant to illustrate a larger principle of democratization sweeping computing. A valuable idea in the broader discussion but irrelevant to the small business: the goal is to contain technology expenses not increase expenses through allowing more complexity and variability. Indeed, I applaud Microsofts recent actions - the small business benefits substantially when Microsoft takes dramatic steps to limit exposure and risk for their customers.

The year was 1987. Japan was trying to cash in on the PC game market. In an attempt to do this, they exported one of their more popular arcade games into PC format. Because of this, the game itself, Sorcerian, plays more like an arcade game than a PC game. This doesn't make the game itself bad, just very different.

The game itself is very interesting in many respects but because of its flaws, the game can become very dull very fast.

Let's begin with the more interesting aspects of the game. Sorcerian is a game where you create the characters from scratch. These characters not only have certain powers and abilities, such as fighter, cleric and wizard, among others, but each character can have a different race and profession. The characters actually age, progress in knowledge and levels and eventually die. This makes the game very interesting as you attempt to build your characters as strong as possible.

The game is also very different from many other PC games in that it has multiple scenarios. Each one of these is like a separate game unto itself. Solving one scenario has no effect on any of the others, other than to increase your characters' levels and skill abilities, along with their age. It appears after completing each scenario your character will age one year.

The scenarios themselves are fairly interesting but there doesn't seem to be any connection between them. This is one of the game's flaws. Plus, you can do each scenario as many times as you want. Some of them are so easy to begin with that eventually your characters will become so powerful that nothing can stop them. This is another one of the game's flaws in that eventually it can become rather dull to play when the challenge is gone.

The look of the game itself is rather odd. The characters are extremely small and don't look anything like real people. They follow each other in a line in an almost comical fashion. When one character battles, they all battle. There is no way to separate their actions. You can equip them with a variety of weapons, however. You can use spells, some of which are very powerful, especially in the upper levels.

The game comes with a very interesting and beautiful musical score. This is actually one of the high points of the game itself, since the graphics of the game leave a lot to be desired. Of course considering when the game itself was made, they're not too bad. Just don't expect too much.

The game is very old, so don't expect to be able to play it on the newer operating systems. Anything past Windows 98 is probably going to crash and burn. The game comes on floppy disks. Yes, we're talking very old.

In spite of the flaws, there is a charm to Sorcerian. The characters are so cute when you view them in their inventory screen. There is enough to do besides fighting, such as training, buying items and other odds and ends. If you can get around the challenges becoming too easy as you progress, this is actually a very enjoyable game.
